It is the considered opinion of the author, that political activity, can only,at best, bandage social wounds until the inevitable, historically proved,

phenomenon of the bandagers becoming bandits occurs. It seems,to me,that only cultural phenomena are capable of providing any remedy for the

amelioration of unnecessary social, and individual sufferings. By cultural phenomena,                              I mean, Religions, philosophies, ideas, arts

and literatures, customs, rituals, and all such manifestations intentionally  created to improve human knowledge and  understanding. To this end,it seems to me,Accessibility becomes a vital element.       An attempt should be made ,as the mediaeval cathedral and mosque builders made,to fill everyone, irrespective of education or conditioning, with at least a primary sense of harmony,or wonder, making a STEP IN,for even the most culturally repressed elements of society. To this end, I make                                      small attempts to perhaps devise visual language methods that may, one day, help to provide qualitative vehicles for  the                                    expression of useful perspectives,so to speak. So in this sense,"art" which is primarily self-expressive,is generally useless.                                            Art is like making bread. It is done to feed people, not to distinguish the baker.   I do not claim to have succeeded in any larger sense, only to be attempting something,in between various distractions and sidetracks. ACCESIBILITY has become a dirty word  in                         many quarters of modernism, where the composer Philip Glass for example, has been derided by his contemporaries for making music that                               'too many people' liked,as if to say that the mysterious fashion of the day has  inherent value in a deliberately                                manufactured obscurity.                      Fashion, from the catwalk,to the formaldehide,to peace marches or carrying kalashnikovs,.....................always fashion has the                               same                                                smell. You can dress it in Saatchi money, place it in white walled,        wooden polished floored, and spotlit  galleries........................................................... but it  still smells sheepshit to me. Why are we in      a                   position where most contemporary        "ART"                                    is ridiculed and despised by 99% of the pubic?  In saying this,I do not advocate in any way,the social realism of hitler or stalin. What I mean is,that the people whose job it is, in society are not making much attempt to create work that assists society in a practical way to sensitise itself to a more complex approach to life in general.

An aspect of this is the emergence of "music" with an extraordinary undercurrent of robotic violence,"music" such as techno and rap, acid house and such ,much of which, disposes of melody, replacing it with the jagged rhythms of insect colonies. You don't need much common sense to see that this affects people;,the streets.

We have the cultural phenomenon of the tabloid papers, encouraging negativity and base violent attitudes. Why are there no government health warnings atop tabloid newspapers warning  folks that exposure to them can damage their emotional intelligence? And so on and so on.

Harmonics need'nt turn into wallpaper.Obscurity isn't a virtue .The purpose of fashion is either to feel the 'security' of a sheep,or feel the superiority of a sheep dressed up in a sheepdogs' skin.

I hope this rant,if you have had the misfortune to have read it,can be excused by my indulging in the modern fashion of having to explain everything ,but I really do think that modern society is badly malnourished culturally, and that the effects of this malnourishment are becoming increaingly visible. It is a source of great sadness to me that  not enough people of far greater talent than I can ever hope to possess are not applying themselves to this problem of ACCESSIBILITY.
